Republic Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group (UMG). It was founded by Monte Lipman and Avery Lipman as an independent label in 1995, but was acquired by UMG in 2000. In 2005, Republic Records became an imprint of Universal Motown Records, while its name was changed to Universal Republic Records a year later. The label reverted back to its original name in late 2012, after Universal Motown Records was shuttered[2][3][4]

Notable artists signed to Republic Records include Drake, Nav, Jesse J, Greta Van Fleet, Black Veil Brides, Ariana Grande, Andy Black, MIKA, Lindsay Lohan, Hailee Steinfeld, Taylor Swift, Christina Grimmie, Florence and the Machine, Post Malone, Julia Michaels, MDFMK, Amy Winehouse, Drake, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Austin Mahone, 3 Doors Down, DNCE, The Weeknd, and Lorde. Republic Records is responsible for the distribution of the official soundtrack for Sing and Sing 2.
