Katy Perry

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born November 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television judge. As a child, Perry often sung in church, which led her to pursue a career in gospel music as a teenager. She signed with Red Hill Records, and in 2001, released her debut studio album under her birth name: Katy Hudson. The album was commercially unsuccessful, and by the end of 2001, Red Hill Records ceased operations. One year later, Perry moved to Los Angeles and ventured into secular music, working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin.

Perry rose to fame in 2008 with her pop rock sophomore album, One of the Boys, which spawned hit singles "I Kissed a Girl" and "Hot n Cold". 2010's Teenage Dream incorporated disco, and was Perry's first record to top the US Billboard 200. It was also the second album since Michael Jackson's Bad to produce five number one singles, with "California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T.", and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" all topping the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Perry's third album, Prism (2013), was influenced by pop and dance and became her second album to top the Billboard 200. It also produced hit singles "Roar" and "Dark Horse".
