"Call Me Maybe" is a song by Carly Rae Jepsen from her debut EP Curiosity. It also appears on her second studio album, 2012's Kiss. The song was written by Jepsen and Tavish Crowe as a folk song, but its genre was modified to pop following the production by Josh Ramsay. "Call Me Maybe" was released as the EP's lead single on September 20, 2011 through 604 Records.

"Call Me Maybe" peaked at No. 1 in Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States, while peaking inside the top three in Austria, Belgium (Flanders & Wallonia), Germany, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. Jepsen became only the fifth Canadian artist to top her home country's Hot 100 since 2007. In the United States, the track reached number one on the Mainstream Top 40 chart[1], and is the first number one by a Canadian female artist on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since 2007's "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne.

"Call Me Maybe" was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 55th Grammy Awards, but lost to "We Are Young" by Fun and the live performance of "Set Fire to the Rain" by Adele, respectively. The song was the best-selling single worldwide in 2012, selling over 12 million copies in that year alone, and the best-selling single on the iTunes Store in 2012. As of July 2015, "Call Me Maybe" has sold over 18 million copies worldwide, becoming the best selling single of the century by a female artist[2]. "Call Me Maybe" was the best-selling digital single of 2012[3][4], and is the seventh best-selling digital single of all time.

In Sing, Buster Moon presented Ash with this song to use for her final showcase act, but Ash showed disfavor towards his suggestion. Buster and Ash separately sang portions of this song during practice rehearsals. Later, Ash tries to sing this song during a different practice rehearsal. However, still hurt from her recent break-up with her boyfriend, Lance, she almost immediately begins to cry and subsequently runs off stage.

Also during the film, the lines: "I trade my soul for a wish, Pennies and dimes for a kiss. I wasn't looking for this. But now you're in my way" are removed both when Ash sings and when it is played on Buster's boombox, either to shorten the song, or to not send the wrong message about actually trading one's soul for a kiss.

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I threw a wish in the well
Don't ask me, I'll never tell
I looked to you as it fell
And now you're in my way
I trade my soul for a wish
Pennies and dimes for a kiss
I wasn't looking for this
But now you're in my way

[Pre-Chorus]
Your stare was holding
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?

[Chorus]
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
It's hard to look right at you, baby
But here's my number, so call me maybe
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
And all the other boys try to chase me
But here's my number, so call me maybe

[Verse 2]
You took your time with the call
I took no time with the fall
You gave me nothing at all
But still you're in my way
I beg and borrow and steal
At first sight and it's real
I didn't know I would feel it
But it's in my way

[Pre-Chorus]
Your stare was holding
Ripped jeans, skin was showin'
Hot night, wind was blowin'
Where you think you're going, baby?

[Chorus]
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
It's hard to look right at you, baby
But here's my number, so call me maybe
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
And all the other boys try to chase me
But here's my number, so call me maybe

[Bridge]
Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so, so bad
Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad
And you should know that
I missed you so, so bad

[Breakdown]
It's hard to look right at you, baby
But here's my number, so call me maybe

[Chorus]
Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy
But here's my number, so call me maybe
And all the other boys try to chase me
But here's my number, so call me maybe

[Outro]
Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad
I missed you so bad
I missed you so, so bad
Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad
And you should know that
I missed you so, so bad
So call me maybe
